I've experienced the profound impact that nature and creativity can have on wellbeing. Even a simple walk in the park or a moment of artistic expression can do wonders for our bodies and minds. I've noticed that an ongoing practice of creatively connecting with nature can generate a deep sense of peace, enabling us to handle life's inevitable stressors with more grace and ease.
In my practice, I use a range of media - paint, paper collage, photo, video, writing - to document and engage with the beauty of the natural world. I'm fortunate to live near a variety of natural environments, but I firmly believe that nature's beauty can be found anywhere... from the clouds above to the resilient weeds pushing through concrete below.
It's my hope that those who view my work feel the serenity I experience while creating it.

RESEARCH & RESOURCES: NATURE, CREATIVITY, & WELLBEING
NATURE & WELLBEING
"Over 100 studies have shown that being in nature, living near nature, or even viewing nature in paintings or videos can have positive impacts on our brains, bodies, feelings, thought processes, and social interactions. In particular, viewing nature seems to be inherently rewarding, producing a cascade of positive emotions and calming our nervous systems. These in turn help us to cultivate greater openness, creativity, connection, generosity, and resilience." More about how nature benefits our wellbeing, health, and relationships.
The Nature Fix book: "We don't experience natural environments enough to realize how restored they can make us feel, nor are we aware that studies also show they make us healthier, more creative, more empathetic, and more apt to engage with the world and with each other. Nature, it turns out, is good for civilization." - from The Nature Fix: Why Nature Makes Us Happier, Healthier, and More Creative by Florence Williams.
CREATIVITY & WELLBEING
"The arts are transformational and engage our hearts, minds, and souls and elevate our empathy, compassion, and connection. Creative expression has the power to improve well-being by helping us understand ourselves and shifting perspectives that reinforce positive behaviors. Physiologically, making art has powerful effects on our bodies: reducing blood pressure, bolstering our immune system, improving brain cognition, and fighting inflammation." More about the benefits of creating art.
Neuroarts is the transdisciplinary study of how the arts and aesthetic experiences measurably change the body, brain, and behavior and how this knowledge is translated into specific practices that advance health and wellbeing. It's the place where a growing body of research-based knowledge about how the brain and body respond to the experience of art is stored. And it's the springboard for interventions and programs that translate that knowledge into practice in clinics, homes, workplaces, and communities, all in service to individual and collective well-being. More about the newly named field of Neuroarts.
