I’m interested in the effects of nature and the creative process on the human psyche, brain, and body. As an expressive arts facilitator and health educator, I began to see both nature and creativity as doorways to personal and collective wellbeing.
My torn paper art is inspired by nature in everyday life. It allows me to engage with subjects that enchant me and bring me a sense of peace, such as plants, trees, and the moon--and to do so in a textured, tactile way that calms my senses.
I’m particularly drawn to the soothing quality of simplicity and repetition in nature, life, and art. I use simple outlines for containment and the repetition of small details for the contemplative, meditative value they bring to both my creative process and the finished piece. It’s my hope that those who view my work experience the sense of integration and serenity I feel while creating it.
